Experienced craftsmanship

Mr.Honma, 72 years old.
He has been spending over 50 years for design the thread that is basic of the many kind of fabric, and nail down the feature of many kind of natural fiber, ex. Cotton, Silk, Hemp, Bark, Animal fur...and more. The most of the fabric for the cut sew that is main category of Rulzpeeps is sublimed to designer’s ideal product by his craft man technology.
“Spinning a thread is a groundwork in building a house” he says. Trustworthy products are created only by the harmony between a material and craftsmanship with excellent quality. “To recognize a good quality of the material, we should have good senses...need a sharp eye and highly sensitive hand as well.” he explains, while loosening a organic cotton ball between his both thumbs and index fingers with slow stroke, closely looking at each fiber with gentle movement.
“It is better for you to buy what you really want after assuring by actual seeing and touching rather than through virtual shopping.” The era of massive consumption and production disappoints him as ever.

“Craftsmanship does not match a large scale operation, only ending up too many small divided tasks, making artisans’ perspective also smaller. Honorable Japanese craftsmanship with high creativity has been kept thanks to their visible, close horizontal ties on “family-run-business” level”. Surely it seems to be unique to Japan. Japanese artisans’ attitude and disposition toward creating things makes them say “OK, LET’S DO ANYWAY”, it is an expression of their great intention just to generate what people could imagine but could not find actually, what people are longing for. It is not too much to say...it even gives us a feeling of LOVE.

“When I was a child I used to run around through the fields of my hometown Yamagata, that was very experience to have made what I am today. By touching mother nature...mountains, rivers and sea, I could understand the order and wisdom in nature. The origin of my creativity is always there and it is natural. Not information but our senses do we need in this world. I believe this attitude and experiences over the years are the core of the Japanese craftsmanship.” he said quietly but clearly. We as a one of people related in this outdoors manufacturing industry, feel great by his words. It reminds us that it is necessary for us to go and enjoy with the flow of nature.

“After 50 years, I have just gained some confidence in my hand. I have learned there is something to be able to recognize by keeping doing one thing.“, meaning a lot coming from his.
This is one of life stories of artisans with great experiences and polished senses in Japan, and our cloths making has been supported by each one of them, elegant Japanese artisans.
